What’s Up with “The Great Resignation”?

By June 29, 2021September 6th, 2021No Comments

Time to reshuffle how so many businesses have been accustomed to doing things.

Texas A&M University Associate Management Professor Anthony Klotz recently described what everyone is feeling and doing in the workforce right now as “The Great Resignation.”  Employees around the nation are literally “getting ready to jump ship” from their jobs (if they haven’t already).

That feels like a shocking statement to read. However, the last year has created a perfect storm. People have had time to reflect on the important things in life and examine and shift their priorities due to a global pandemic – all during an economic crisis.

In this article Fast Company magazine points out that people are walking out and moving on from their jobs for various reasons, chief among them is the desire for a more meaningful connection to work.

As we have pointed out numerous times during the pandemic in our own blogs and through our strategic consulting work, nothing is returning to normal and nothing is normal again. With a major shift in employee/employer consciousness happening right now, it’s time to ask yourself some questions:

  • What impact do I want to have?
  • What do I want my work to look like?
  • How can I truly balance my work and personal life for a more meaningful, impactful engagement in my work?

If you are a business owner/employer, it’s time to rethink your work and impact on the world. Attracting and keeping the right employees isn’t just about living wages and benefits. It’s about connecting people to meaningful work that creates real and lasting change.

We predict a heavy shift toward social entrepreneurship and a rise in more people seeking out better opportunities to work in the social impact sector, both nonprofit and for profit.

Employees and employers are you ready for this? We are.

Join us for a FREE BIG (Bold Impact for Good) Talk “Generating Meaningful Work: A Talk for Employers & Frustrated Employees” for a chance to reflect on these questions as we share our team’s personal journeys, tips, and ideas for a more meaningful work life for local, and social good.
